Highlands Garden Club would like to invite the ladies in our neighborhood to a Meet & Greet Thursday November 18th between 5:30 & 7:30 at the Community Center. This will be an opportunity to get to know new people, plan for our upcoming year, & find out what we are all about. You do not have to be a gardener to be a part of this group.

During COVID we have only met a couple of times but plan to start meeting regularly. Our big project of decorating the neighborhood for Christmas is Wednesday December 1st at 10:30am at the Community Center. We will need lots of help & plenty of fresh greenery.

Looking forward to seeing old & new faces! If you have any questions please contact Patti Smalley at 706-217-8252 or This email address is being protected from spambots. Christmas Food & Toy Drives
Annual HFLA Food Drive

It is that time of year again! Highland Forest will hold our annual food drive. All donations will go to the Varnell United Methodist Church for distribution to families in need through the Community Christmas program and their Community Food Bank. This is a great time to clean out your pantry and donate those non-expired items that have been stuck in the back.

Items needed include non-perishable foods such as

    • Canned fruits, vegetables, meats
    • Canned soups, sauces and meals
    • Dried pasta, rice, potatoes

We will have several opportunities to donate:

    • There will be a box outside the HFLA Community Center every day from November 14 through November 19. We will collect food items daily to keep from attracting pests and animals.
    • If you want to donate, but can’t get out or make it to the above donation times, please contact Nicole Turner at (928) 830-5701 and we will arrange a pick-up.

Community Christmas

It’s also time for the Annual Varnell Community Christmas Drive!!! Community Christmas is a way to help make sure no child goes without this holiday season. The list of families and children is compiled primarily by the school guidance counselors to make sure those in the most need are not overlooked. This annual event is sponsored by the City of Varnell, Varnell United Methodist, Varnell Elementary and all the wonderful citizens that go shopping for our Children every year.

The Christmas list is in. You can stop by Varnell City Hall and pick up a list of as few or as many children as you can help. Some of these children are in need of the bare basics, warm clothing, jackets, shoes, etc.

Please stop by during normal business hours, Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm, and pick up a child's list. They do ask that you spend a $100.00 minimum per child. All gifts need to be returned by December 2, 2021.

If you would rather donate individual toys, or money, those will be accepted as well. Varnell Elementary is holding their toy drive all week this week. If you have toys to donate, you can reach out to Nicole Turner at (928) 930-5701 and she will be happy to pick up from you and drop off at the school.

LADIES NIGHT OUT

Attention ladies of Highland Forest, we have another FUN Ladies Night Out paint party planned! We had such a blast at our October party that a CHRISTMAS edition was a must!

The Creator's Canvas will be joining us again at the HFLA Community Center to provide a painting party! Whether you are a first-time painter, or someone who has doodled and dabbled in it for many years, these classes are for everyone. The class will be casual with lots of laughs and fun as we create our own masterpieces. This is a great mid-week de-stresser and a chance to meet other ladies of Highland Forest.

Participants must live in Highland Forest. If spots remain available residents may bring pre-registered guests. Pre-registration is required so the artist can prepare your canvas and supplies.

When: Thursday, December 9th 6pm - 10pm

What to bring with you: A finger food to share and a beverage for yourself

Cost: $30 per painter (includes step by step painting instruction, access to all the materials needed to paint a 16x20 canvas, and go home with your completed masterpiece.)

Register at this link and choose the Dec 9th party -  https://www.thecreatorscanvas.com/partyregistration

Statement for Proxy and Voting

Members in good standing who may be absent from the meeting and election or cannot personally vote on election day because of illness or physical disability may vote by proxy.  All proxies shall be in writing and filed by Monday, November 8 at 4 PM (ARTICLE 3. SEC 5). No proxies will be accepted after the deadline of the election.  The Highland Forest Board mailed all residents a copy of the Proxy form, identifiable by the official logo on the document. You may have also received a different proxy from a resident that wishes to be nominated from the meeting floor. While the Nominations Committee has selected certain candidates to be nominated at the annual meeting, additional nominations can be made from the floor. The HFLA Board of Directors does not endorse any one candidate for election.

Online Broadcast

We want to encourage all residents to attend the November 9, 2021 Annual HFLA Business Meeting at 7:00pm in the Sanctuary at the Varnell United Methodist Church. We understand that not all residents can attend in person. As such, this year’s meeting will be broadcast live on the internet in an effort to give those that cannot attend in person an opportunity to hear the discussions in real time. Multiple camera angles and microphones will make it possible to see and hear both the Board and any resident that chooses to speak. If, for some reason, a resident asking a question is unable to step to a microphone, a Board Member will repeat the question into the microphone to be sure it can be clearly heard by those watching online. We want to thank the Varnell United Methodist Church Audiovisual team for so generously providing us with use of their equipment, live stream, and their time for making this possible.

For those not in physical attendance at the meeting, we will not be able to allow comments during the meeting. In-person attendance or the submission of a proxy in compliance with the bylaws is required in order to vote.

At meeting time, the online broadcast will be viewable On Varnell UMC's YouTube Channel. Click this link and then click the YouTube Video that indicates it's "Live".

Post-Meeting Feedback

We have provided a place on the Highland Forest Website for online viewers and meeting attedants to submit questions, concerns and constructive feedback. Submissions will be reviewed by the HFLA Communications Committee after the meeting and responded to accordingly. Online submissions will not be reviewed live in the meeting.
