Beach ball We are pleased to announce the Highland Forest Pool will open at 3PM on May 28th! All members with paid assessment fees are welcome to use the pool.  Our normal hours of operation will be:

Monday         11AM-9PM
Tuesday        11AM-9PM
Wednesday  11AM-9PM
Thursday      11AM-9PM
Friday             11AM-9PM
Saturday       11AM-9PM
Sunday          12PM-9PM

Preparing for the pool opening has not been easy this year. First, as with many other pools, a shortage exists in chlorine. The good news is we were able to secure a sufficient supply to open the pool. The pandemic has also created shortage of supplies in concrete and therefore a delay in constructing the splash pad. However, we will have planned a fun filled opening day.

In response to a recent Homeowner survey, we will be initiating an "alcohol free" Sunday from 12pm-5pm. During this time, please refrain from using alcohol at the pool. At the end of June we will evaluate the results and decide on the policy. Let us know your opinions during the month of June.

Come join your neighborhood for a visit and a swim! If you haven't visited the pool, we encourage you to visit. We look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Brian Howard - HFLA Board Member - Pool Liaison

Our Declarations and neighborhood covenants require each lot owner to pay annual assessments whether you use all or any the neighborhood functions and activities. They further state that any resident who has an unpaid balance, unless you have a payment plan in place, is not permitted to use any of the amenities funded by the HFLA. This includes use of the pool, use and reservations for pool parties, Community Center, and pavilion. Since these nonpayment accounts affect future assessment rates, in fairness to the residents who have paid, we will enforce these rules.

If you are past due, please submit your payment to: HFLA, Box 139, Varnell, GA 30756

In addition to the no-use rules, these unpaid assessments have late charges and finance charges added to the account. Plus, those in arrears for an extended period will have liens or legal actions filed against them with attorney fees added to the account. This followup on unpaid assessments takes a lot of the Board's and Committee Chairs' time and resources that could instead be used on more positive improvement to the community.

The Association wants to be sensitive to those that have faced unforeseen health and financial difficulties over the past year. There are options available to you in these cases. First, a group of residents have initiated and funded a Scholarship Fund to help pay assessments for those suffering those setbacks. The HIGHLAND FOREST ASSISTANCE can help those unable to pay assessments by calling Chip Whitfield to apply. In addition, you can contact Treasurer, Rick Johnson at 706-694-3250 to work out a payment plan.

In advance, we want to thank all those that are current on their accounts and those who are willing to make payment now or explore the other options available to you.

Splash Pad
The Board has contacted two different pool companies concerning the Splash Pad. The pool company who originally gave us a bid last year for $10,000 to build the Splash Pad informed us that they are a year behind just in building pools. They agreed to keep us on the list to build the Splash Pad when they can. They also said they were having trouble getting parts and chemicals and as a result the original price of $10,000 would now be close to $15,000 - $18,000. Material and concrete prices have increased significantly. The cost now to build a Splash Pad would almost double. The second pool company would not even touch building our Splash Pad because of increase in materials and labor and they also are several months behind in building pools.

The HFLA budget for the Splash Pad is $10,000 which was based on last year's bid. The Board understands the frustration and disappointment many of our homeowners have. The price increase in parts, materials and labor are out of our control. The Board has been working on getting someone to install the Splash Pad since late February and will continue looking for other options to get the Splash Pad built ASAP. We appreciate your patience. Thank you HFLA Board of Directors.
