fireworks The Fireworks show is scheduled for Saturday, July 3rd! Rain date is Saturday, July 10th. Varnell City is co-sponsoring the Fireworks show with the HFLA and will be providing traffic control.

We have had input from residents for greater understanding and more frequent updates of the Highland Forest financials. To respond to these requests, the HFLA Treasurer will conduct in-person, mid-year financial update meetings in July. The sessions will take place at the Community Center and are planned as follows:

First Session: Thursday July 15th, 6:30 - 8:30PM

Or, Second Session: Saturday July 24th, 10am - Noon

The agenda is as follows:

  1. Overview of QuickBooks Online and how it's used by the association and our bookkeeper. Task list of responsibilities of Treasurer and Bookkeeper. Every resident has different financial expertise and without this background, just a written report may be confusing, leaving unanswered questions.
  2. Summary of 2020 actual vs budget and the 2021 budget
  3. Give a mid-year financial update just like is given at the monthly board meeting. That includes a copy of the current balance sheet, budget vs actual expense report, and a past due accounts update. Plus, updates on any pending issues: audit, follow-up communications on past due accounts, etc.
  4. Remainder of session open for questions and answer discussions from residents in attendance.

To make the most effective use of your time, please let our Treasurer (Rick Johnson- This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) know which session you plan to attend and other Highland Forest financial topics you want to discuss. Then as a follow-up for those not attending, we will issue a summary mid-year financial update in the August newsletter.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing and meeting with you!

First, we want to thank James Gordy and Lee Smith for the many years of service they have given the neighborhood for managing this event.  We do need facilitator/s for this neighborhood activity.  As you know this event was established as a venue for residents to meet other Highland Forest residents. As a result of feedback from the neighborhood, a committee was formed to look into the guidelines going forward. We felt the best way to get the interest level, guidelines, format, etc. for this event was to send out a survey, which is planned.  If you are interested in serving as facilitator and to help the committee answer those questions, please contact a board member.

Thank You,
HFLA board of Directors

Dear HFLA:
Once upon a time, there was a tiny house in the Highland Forest. Although children visited the tiny house it was broken, dark, and sad! Some very talented neighbors saw the little house needed help! The Turner family worked to repair and stain the little house. On Saturday morning, we are asking volunteers from the Highland Forest neighborhoods to come help shingle the roof. We will provide water and snacks. We will start at 8:30 am and hope to be finished by noon. Come visit the Little House and have an opportunity to visit with neighbors.
